Agribusiness participation in the economic structure of a Brazilian region: analysis of GDP and indirect taxes Rev. Econ. Sociol. Rural
Kureski,Ricardo; Moreira,Vilmar Rodrigues; Veiga,Claudimar Pereira da.
Abstract: Agribusiness, including all its dimensions, is the largest economic sector in Brazil and plays a fundamental role in the development of the country's economy. About one-fourth of the Brazilian Gross Domestic Product (GDP) is composed of agribusiness. The objective of this article is to evaluate the participation of agribusiness in the economy of an important region of Brazil from 2010 to 2015. The evaluation was carried out through the decomposition of GDP, with an analysis of aggregate inputs, agro-livestock products, industrialization, and services. This article presents three main contributions to the understanding and composition of agribusiness GDP. The novelty of this article lies in the fact that it is the first work in the literature to...

Increased efficiency of straw utilisation by cattle and buffalo AgEcon
George, P.S..
The Australian Centre of International Agricultural Research (ACIAR) has sponsored several research projects with the aim of increasing the efficiency of straw utilisation by cattle and buffaloes in some Australian and Indian situations. These projects involved research on upgrading technology and field testing specific feed formulations to determine their impact on improving livestock production in India. This report contains an economic assessment of three interrelated projects supported by ACIAR over a period of nine years, starting 1983–84. Apart from validating the feasibility of improving the efficiency of strawbased diets through strategic supplements, the projects under review had played a significant role in the commercial introduction of urea...

Upland crop technologies in Cambodia: economic evaluations and some adoption issues AgEcon
Farquharson, Robert J.; Scott, J. Fiona; Sareth, Chea.
Agricultural research and development (R&D) has being conducted in the upland districts of Cambodia to develop new farming systems and crop management technologies. Levels of farm income in these areas are relatively low due to small farm sizes and low crop productivity. Work is also planned to encourage the process of adoption of these technologies, and here we investigate how this process can be facilitated. A literature review identifies two important technology characteristics, ‘relative advantage’ and ‘trialability’, for successful adoption. Minimum or target rates of return on investment in new technologies are discussed as a means of investigating how much improvement in relative advantage might be enough to encourage successful adoption of the...
